NOTES
1). He supposedly had Montague relatives in England, but none known of in Ireland. He no doubt was of true Montague blood. The name of Christopher seems to have been common in the extinct title of Montague, Earl of Halifax. One relative, Edward Montagu, brother of the second Earl of Halifax, died in 1738 and left sons George, Edward killed at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745, Christopher third son, and John, fourth Son. Several branches of this family were connected with, or resided in the south of Ireland being children of younger sons, they are not recorded in the Peerages. All of this information is published in History and Genealogy of Peter Montague of Nansemond and Lancaster Counties, Virginia, and His Descendants, 1621 1894. Compiled and Published by George William Montague, Amherst, MA. Press of Carpenter and Morehouse, 1894. Library of Congress CS71.M759 FHL Microfilm 0928298
