1). Rev. Freeman was born on December 22, 1836, and was a so n ofMarkFreeman. He entered the War Between the States on January 19,1862,and served throughout the war, belonging to the 2nd SouthCarolinaCalvary. He taught vocal music for a few years, and thenentered theBaptist ministry and was ordained in November 1878. He wasgood inevangelistic work and served as an evangelist and missionary oftheHome Mission Board among the mountain people. He foundedseveralchurches and served as pastor. He died on April12,1897, andisburied in the cemetery of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Rev.Freemanmarried Margaret Hunt and their children are Sylvanus PettieFreeman,John McAfee, Walter Octavius Vandorn, Willie WellingtonMcGruder, andLemiel Elmer McMillan. Sylvanus PettieFreeman, HisAncestors andDescendants by Margaret Freeman Owens, 1985.
