HARRY McLESKEY A native and lifelong residentofAnderson County and a member of an old and prominent AndersonCountyfamily, Mr. McLeskey has spent all of his life, except theearlierpart, in the city of Anderson. It was here that he acquiredhispracticalknowledge of the drug business, in which he hasbeensuccessfully engaged for many years. One of the owners oftheMcLeskey Todd Drug Company, one of the leading retail drug storesofAnderson, Mr. McLeskey enjoys an enviable professional reputationandis alsowell known as a very able and successful business man.Hetakes an active part in civic, fraternal and religious affairs and,indeed, in every respect, represents the highest type of useful,progressive and public spirited citizenship. W. Harry McLeskey was horn in Anderson County, February 25, 1886,on his father s farm in Centreville Township. He is the son of thelateJames Franklin and Sarah Rebecca Clark McLeskey, both nativesofAnderson County and both now deceased. His father, whowas a farmerandwho served in the War Between the States with the ConfederateArmy,died on November 11, 1923. Mr. McLeskey s mother died on April17,1926. One of eleven children, of whom seven are now living,Mr.McLeskey received his early education in thecountry schools of his native region. At the age of fourteenyears,in 1900, he became a resident of Anderson, in the schools ofwhich cityhe finished his education. He also attended the privateschoolconducted by professor Harden. As a young man Mr. McLeskeybecame aclerk in a local drug store and in 1909 he successfullypassed theexaminations of the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacists. He continued to clerk in several Andersondrugstores until 1919, when he formed, together with Mr. Harvey E.Todd,the McLeskey Todd Drug Company, at No.304 South Main Street.Eversince then he has continued to be active in the management andtheownership of this well known Anderson retail drug business, whichhasmet with marked success. During 1924 25 he served as an aldermanfrom Ward No.3. Mr. McLeskeyisa member of Ruft Lodge, No. 240, Ancient Free Masons BurningBushChapter, Royal Arch Masons Wynne Council, Royal and SelectMasters Anderson Commandery, Knights Templar and Hejaz Temple, ofGreenville,Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Inpolitics he is asupporter of the Democratic party, while his religiousaffiliationsare with the Presbyterian Church and more particularlywith the FirstPresbyterian Church of Ander son Mr. McLeskey married, in December, 1924, Mae Hudson, of Athens,Georgia, a daughter of Mrs. Henry B. Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. McLeskey,who make their home at No. 1203 South Main Street, Anderson, havetwochildren I.
