Wilkinson, 1978, Southern Historical Press p.199 Issue of Thursday, November 16, 1876 Sudden Death Once again the hand of death has removed from ourmidsta devoted wife and fond mother, who was an exemplary and useful memberof society. The summons came suddenly in the morning of womanhood onlast Monday afternoon to Mrs. Jemima Roof, wife of Mr. Walter Roof, of Charleston, who was stricken down by apoplexy at the residence of her father, Mr. J.B. Clark, in this town. She only survived aboutthreehours and died without an utterance after the attack, which came upon her in health with no premonition of its approach. She was a faithfulandpious member of the Baptist Church at this place and her remains wereplacedto rest in the Baptist Church yard after beautiful andsolemnfuneralservices by Revs. J.S. Murray and L.M. Ayer. The deceased leaves alittledaughter not yet a year old, with a husband and many relatives who,togetherwith a large circle of friends, grieve for her untimely death.
