1). Raised by Uncle, a Dr Garrett, in Rockingham, till he was 10 yrs old. Mary Anne Garrett, Lon s mother, had red auburn hair. She was ofapriveledged family father thought to be a doctor . Her marriagetoNoah Richardson Sanford in 1878 placed her into a difficult lifethatshe was not used to. Life was so difficult that she lost it , and was found by one ofLon solder brothers attempting to drop baby Lon down the water well. Lon was sent to live with his Uncle Garrett, in Rockingham, NC untilhewas 10, at which time he returned home, aftr his mother s recoveryfroma breakdown.
