1). ELIAS BALL 1676? 1751 . Father of John Coming Ball grand father of Henry Laurens 1763 1821 and John Laurens fathe r in law of John Ashby 1698 1729 , George Austin, Philip D awes, Henry Laurens 1724 1792 , and John Vicaridge. Elias Ball was born in the parish of Stockentine, Devonshir e, the second son of William Ball, a farmer. About 1698 h e immigrated to South Carolina, where his father s halfbro ther, John Coming, had already settled. He inherited Coming tee at the tee of the Cooper River from John Comings wid ow, Affra. In 1701 he married Elizabeth Harleston who wa s a relative of his aunt, Affra Coming. They had many child ren, but only four survived childhood Anne m. 1st Phili p Dawes. 2nd George Austin , Elias, Elizabeth m. 1st Joh n Ashby, 2nd John Vicaridge, 3rd Richard Shubrick, and Joh n Coming. Elizabeth Harleston Ball died in 1720, and withi n eleven months, much to the consternation of his first wif e s family, Elias Ball remarried. His second wife was Mar y Delamere, a girl no older than his eldest daughter. Thei r union produced seven offspring, but only Eleanor m. Henr y Laurens reached adulthood.
