1). Charles Cotesworth Pinckney was an American statesman an d Brigadier General in the Revolution. He served in the Fir st and Second Provincial Congresses and, in 1787 he was a d elegate to the Constitutional Convention, where he was inst rumental in obtaining South Carolina s ratification in 1788 . As emissary to France, he reported the X,Y,Z Affair . H e was an unsuccessful candidate for Vice president in 180 0 and for president in 1804 and 1808.
