Pursued an academic course . Married Mrs. Mary Allston AIlston, widow of Thomas Alls ton, February 18, 1796. Rice planter on Waccamaw River, nea r Georgetown. S. C. House of Representatives, Prince George s, Winyah, 1796 98, 1806 12, 1813 14. S.C. Senate, All Sai nts , 1818 23 died president, 1819 22. Elected to 6th, 7 th, and 8th Congresses, serving March 4, 1799, to March 3 , 1805. Commissioner to locate certain land to be granted t o the United States for a fort, 1808. Commissioner to estab lish ferries over Winyah Bay and across Waccamaw River. Mem ber of Georgetown Library Society. Justice of peace. Truste e of South Carolina College, 1819 22. Director of Georgetow n branch of Bank of State of South Carolina, 1816. Member o f All Saints Episcopal Church, Waccamaw. Died at his estat e on Pawley s Island July 7, 1823, in office as Senator bu ried in All SaintsChurchyard.
