1). Willis Whitaker, son of James Whitaker, was born about 175 0. Served first as a captain in Joseph Kershaw s regiment i n the Revolutionary army. After release from his imprisonme nt by the British at Charleston, he served under Sumter, an d afterwards in some other command, holding, as I understan d, the rank of Major. He served twice as a member of the S outh Carolina Legislature in the early formation of the gov ernment.
