LOWNDES, Thomas, brother of William Lowndes , a Represent ative from South Carolina born in Charleston, S.C., Januar y 22, 1766 educated at home and in grammar schools of Char leston studied law was admitted to the bar in 1789 and co mmenced practice in Charleston member of the State house o f representatives 1792 1799 elected as a Federalist to th e Seventh and Eighth Congresses March 4, 1801 March 3, 180 5 unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1804 to the Ni nth Congress unsuccessful candidate in 1808 for election t o the Eleventh Congress devoted himself to the managemen t of his estate, with a residence on his Oaklands plantatio n and also in Charleston, S.C. died in Charleston, S.C., o n July 8, 1843 interment in St. Paul s Churchyard.
