1). Thomas Sharpe I 718 1785 , son of Thomas and Isabella Sha rp, also lived in Cecil County, MD, and was a farmer and la ndowner and seems to have been the first to spell the nam e with the e, although records pertaining to him show th e name spelled both ways. This Thomas was also an elder i n Rock Church for over 30 years. He accumulated a home plan tation of about 500 acres located about 6 miles out of Elkt on, MD, and also acquired land in Rutherford County, NC. H e married first, about 1741, Elizabeth Gillespie, daughte r of clockmaker, William Gillespie and second, Mary McFarl and McFarren and his children by Elizabeth wereWilliam, J ohn, James, Joseph, Samuel, Waiter, Isabel, Sarah, and Eliz abeth. His children by Mary were Thomas, Mary, Amos, David , and Ebenezer.
