Born July 26, 1753, the son of Henry Middleton of Middelto n Place and The Oaks and Mary Williams. Educated in Engl and returned to South Carolina in 1174. Married Anne Manig ault April 8, 1783. During Revolutionary War, appointed lie utenant in Berkeley Regiment in December, 1775. Planter o f Prince William s Parish. Member of House of Commons. Memb er of First and Second Provincial Congresses, 1775 78. Duri ng Revolutionary War, aided American cause by guaranteein g paper currency. First General Assembly, St. James , Goos e Creek, 1776. S. C. House of Representatives declined el ection from St. James , Goose Creek, in 1782 , Prince Willi am s, 1784 86. S. C. Senate, Prince William s, 1787 88, 178 9 90. Experimented in reclaiming marshes for grain crops i n the Dutch manner this and ruins of war impaired large es tate received from his father. Member of Episcopal Church. Died August 19 , 1797, at Sullivans Island buried in St. James Goose Cre ek, Churchyard.
