1). After graduation from Princeton College, Joseph studie d law under Hugh S. Legare and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar. As his h ealth began to fail, he left the law to become a planter and teacher, wa s ordained an Episcopal Minister in 1848. He built the school in Bluffto n in 1849 with his own money. He built another in St. Paul s Parish in 1859. Durin g the war, he was Rector of Grace Church in Charleston. Aft er the war, he became pastor of St. Mark s in Charleston. H e ministered to the black congregation of the Low Country a ll of his life. Rev. Seabrook s family Bible was taken by federal soldi ers after the fall of Ft. Walker on the Broad River, nea r Port Royal . A Union clergyman who was with the troops a t the time returned the Bible to the family years later. H e is buried in Magnolia Cemetery.
