1). Zacharia Butler was born in either Ireland or Hanover Coun ty, Virginia, depending on the source you believe, before t he Revolutionary War,. He lived in Mecklenburg County, Virg inia and joined the army there in September, 1780. He serve d as a private in Anderson s Company, Nelson s Regiment, Vi rginia Troops. He described himself as 44 years of age, wit h blue eyes, black hair, and a fair complexion, standing fi ve feet four inches tall. Chesterfield Supplement page 2 Eckenrode and Revolutionary War Records by Katherine B. E lliott page 35 1964 . He was awarded a land grant in Wilke s County Georgia after the war Book B, page 194, Wilkes Co unty, Georgia .
