1). Samuel Maner, son of William Maner b. 1726 , was born o n 10m January 1752 in North Carolina. He and his brother, W illiam, moved to South Carolina prior to the American Revolution. Samuel Maner settled nea r Black Swamp in St. Peter Parish where he received a gran t for 100 acres 1772 . Through other grants 1786 1810 , h e obtained 2,602 acres in Beaufort District with at least 1 ,702 acres in St. Peter Parish. In 1800 he owned seventy sl aves. During the Revolution, Maner served as a captain in F RANCIS MARION s Brigade. Representing his home parish, he served in the House durin g the Sixth 1785 1786 , Seventh 1787 1788 , Eleventh 179 4 1795 , and Thirteenth 1798 1799 General Assemblies. Wi nning a special election, he was elected by St Peterto th e Twelfth General Assembly 1796 1797 , but no evidence o f his qualification was recorded in House Journals. Electe d to the state Senate, Maner represented St. Peter in the F ourteenth 1800 1801 and Fifteenth 1802 1808 General Ass emblies. Locally he was a tax inquirer and collector for St . Peter, Purrysburg 1785 justice of the peace for Lincol n County 1788 , and road commissioner 1795 . On 8 July 17 72, Maner wed Mary May, daughter of John May and Mary Staff ord. They were the parentsof three daughters Anne m. Joh n Hancock Robert 1775 1835 , Sarah m. 1st John Crawford , 2d Peyton L. Wade , and Mary m. William Henry Robert 17 80 18351 . Samuel Maner died sometime in 1818.
