1). Richard came to New Jersey as early as 1709, the d a t e o f h is deeds . His plantation, in the possession o f h i s li nea l descendants at th e turn of the 20th centu ry , wa s o n th e Delaware, near the falls know n by his n ame . H e wa s on e of the most active and influential m e n i n th e town . Hi s name is mentioned often in publi c in struments , char t ers , etc., and heads the list of g rante es to who m the la nd o n which t o build a church wa s conv eyed by Al exander L ockar t, in March, 1709. Richard was commissioned a lieutenant in the milit i a i n 1 7 11 since h is will identifies him as a captai n , he a ppar en tly remained in the mi litia for some tim e . In 173 3, Ri cha rd is listed as a church deacon. In 1715, a new family was built to replace the first , w h i c h had burne d. A mansion, the second house whic h sti l l st an ds, remained in the h ands of Richard s des cendan t s unti l 1 938. In June 1715, Richard purc hase d a 170 a cr e trac t o f land in adjoining Maidenhead no w Lawrenc e T ownship . H e later deeded this to his so n Joseph.
