She was the daughter of Th om a s a nd M ary Dixon Cottingham. Her father died in 1688, when she was 15. Some time be t w e e n that date and 1696 she married George Hey. On Au g . 1 3 , 16 96 George Hey husband of Sarah and Langlan d Go dda r d petit ion the court of Somerset County sayin g the y hav e m arried t he daughters of Thomas Cottingha m who di ed int esta te, and w ant the court to make a divi sion of h is pers ona l estate. Ge orge and Sarah had one c hild a d aughte r name d Anne Hey. B y 1714, Anne marrie d Dennis Tay lor, th e son o f Hope and Mar garet Dennis Taylor. Georg e Hey di ed betwe en June and Aug ust of 17 08. In his will , he lef t his perso nal estate and d welli ng plantation t o his wife , Sarah. A t Sarah s death i t w as to go to thei r daughte r Anne. Sara h married secondl y , Randall Long. R andall wa s born 4 Oct . 1683, making h im 1 0 years younge r than Sara h. He was th e 7th child o f Samue l and Jane M inshall Lon g. Randall an d Sarah ha d two child ren Sara h, born c1717 and Mary, bo rn c172 1. Both girls g rew u p to marry thei r first cousins . Sar ah married Samuel L on g, the son of he r father s broth er . Mary married Thoma s C ottingham, the s on of her mother s brother. By 1717 R andall s sister an d brother in la w Eli zabeth and Adria n Marshal l had died , leaving thei r 4 child ren to be rais ed by Randal l and Sa rah Long. Th eir househol d was certai nly a mixed on e a s tep daught er, 2 daughters , and 4 ne phews. Randall Lo ng di ed by 2 3 Dec. 1739.
