1). MR. WILLIAM2 BASSETT, son of William1 and Elizabeth B a s s e tt, was born in Plymouth, Mass., 1624. He was on e o f t h e ea rly settlers of Sandwich, and lived there un ti l hi s de ath . He was licensed in 1659, to set up an o rdi nary, an d t o draw wines and sell spirituous liquors . H e was C ollec to r and Constable at Sandwich, 1657 Dep ut y to Gener al Cou r t at Plymouth, 1662 member of milit ar y company un der Cap t . Myles Standish, 1643. William B ass ett and Willi am Basse tt , Jr.,were on the rolls o f male s between th e ages of 1 6 a nd 60 able to perform m ilitar y duty in Aug . 1643 at Du xbur y. He was one of th e few i n the colony c alled Mr. H e marr ied about 1652 , Mary Ra insford, who wa s born in Bost on Jun e 1, 1632 , daughter o f Elder Edward 1 and Mary Raynes ford. H e die d June 10, 16 70, at Sandwich . His children wer e mino r s and Mr. Winslo w and Mr. Hinckl ey were chosen as g uar dians both of who m later became go vernors of the colo n y. His widow married, June, 1671, Lieut. James1 Perciv a l , w h o came from Virginia about 1670, to Sandwich. Th e y ha d th re e children. He died 1692. His will provide s fo r hi s wif e Ma ry, his sons John and James and daught er El izabe th, da ughte r in law which means wife s daugh ter , Sara h Lewes , grands on John Williams that dwells w ith m e, so n of Mar y Bassett d ec d, and son in law Natha n Bass ett t hat is, w ife s son . Mary, twice widowed, d ied Apr . 12, 1 694, at Fa lmouth.
