NOTES
1). He moved with his parents to Lewiston, Niagara County , N e w York, where he served in the War of 1812. An active Freemason, he bec a m e embroiled in the so called Morgan affair and was one of seven accuse d o f M organ s murder, but was never convicted. In 1838 he moved to Michigan, settl i n g first in Springfield Township, Oakland County, where he was just i c e of the peace. He later moved to Bridgeport, Saginaw County, where he was t o w nship supervisor, justice of the peace, postmaster and state representati v e a nd senator.
2). She was cousin to her husband, being the daughter of Co l . B enjamin and Ruth Beach Cooley.
