1). Two brothers, Thomas and James Hosmer, came to Massach u s e t ts in the early days of that colony. They were th e s o n s o f Stephen and Dorothy Hosmer of Hawkhurst, Ken t Cou nt y , Eng land. Thomas was the first to leave home a nd cro s s th e Atla ntic. Three years later his brother, J ames, c am e ove r in th e Ship Elizabeth from London 1635 . Jame s a t tha t time wa s 28 years of age and with hi m were hi s wif e, Ann , and tw o small daughters, Mary an d Ann als o two m aid ser vants. H e settled at Concord, M ass. THOMAS HOSMER, the elder of the two immigrants, wa s b o r n a t Hawkhurst, Kent County, England, in January , 160 3 . H e cam e to Mass., in 1632, and settled at Newto n no w C ambr idge where he was admitted freeman in 1635 . In J une , 1636 , h e and Thomas Bull left Newton wit h the Rev . Th omas Ho oke r and his party, and assisted i n the found ing o f Hartfo rd , Conn., being one of the ori ginal settle rs. I n the firs t r ecord of Town Proprietor s of land w e fin d that he wa s ass igned sixty acres o n January 14, 1 639. H is name on th e ol d Colonial record s is sometimes w ritte n Osmer. He be cam e a prominent m ember of the ne w settle ment and was cons tabl e, selectma n and representa tive seve ral times. He wa s twic e marrie d. His first wif e was Franc es surname unkno wn . Sh e wa s born in Englan d in 1602. Sh e died at Hartfor d on Feb r uary 15, 1675, a t the age of 73 . On May 6, 1679 , Thoma s Hos mer married C atherine Wilton , widow of David W ilto n, at Har tford, Con n. After his sec ond marriage he mov e d to Northamp ton. H e died there on Ap ril 12, 1687.
