1). Paul Trapier Hayne entered Confederate Service at the ag e of seventeen in 1863, enlisting in the Beaufort Artillery , then commanded by Captain H. M. Stuart. He fought at Aver asboro and Bentonville in North Carolina, and was paroled a t Greensboro. After teaching school in Georgia and spendin g three years in New York City, he settled in Greenville, w here he worked as deputy clerk of the Federal Court.
