Annie Irvine Pagan Davidson The eldest child of James Pagan   April 22, 1809 November 2 5, 1898  and his wife Ann Callender Fayssoux  September 18 , 1815 February 12, 1899  was born March 29, 1848 at  Oakla nd,  the Pagan home on Lancaster Street in Chester, SC. Sh e was named Annie Irvine in honor of her mother  s materna l grandmother, Ann Callender Irvine, wife of Brig. Gen. Wil liam Irvine of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She grew up in the t wo story raised frame home noted for its formal gardens an d fanlighted front door. She began her education at a schoo l run by Mr. Olmstead, an Episcopal priest and continued i n a school conducted by Miss Sarah Huckins of Charleston o n Wylie Street. Annie spoke French and was educated in musi c. On a trip to visit a friend in Charlotte, NC she met Col . William Lee Davidson, son of Benjamin Wilson Davidson an d Elizabeth Latta. Col. Davidson was a Mexican and Confeder ate War veteran and was at that time employed in Lexington , Kentucky. He was visiting in his native county. He was 2 3 years older than she, but won her affection and they wer e married on March 15, 1870 at the home of the bride in Che ster. They returned to Kentucky for the first years of thei r marriage. She is described by her daughters as small with gray bl ue eyes and medium brown hair. She provided a good home fo r her family in the difficult economic times of the Reconst ruction period. She was a member of the Presbyterian Churc h from her youth, but at times attended the Episcopal churc hes in the areas in which she lived. She cooked and sewed f or her family and helped her husband by taking in school te acher boarders and frequently worked with her husband ove r his business papers. Col. Davidson  s employment at merchandising, postmaster ing, and railroading moved the family around the south. He r first two children were born on return trips to her paren ts   home in Chester. The next three were born in Spartanbur g, SC and the next two at Fishdam Station, which is now Car lisle in Union County, SC. Her last child was born while th ey lived at the Guion house in Lincolnton, NC. There Anni e died of complications on June 28, 1890. Her small son liv ed only 19 days. They were both buried at the Episcopal Cem etery in Lincolnton, NC. Most of her children later returne d to the hometown of their mother to marry and raise thei r families. Her children were  I .
