NOTES
1). Daniel Huger was a merchant in Loudun, which is about 45 m iles southwest of Tours. Around 1680, there was a very acti ve regiment of dragoons in the area, compelling many Huguen ots to recant. Daniel and his wife fled to La Rochelle, th e to the Isle of Re. The Isle of Re lies just off the Frenc h coast, near La Rochelle. The island is about 16 miles lon g and 3 miles wide. It became a refuge for Huguenots, but t he Huger family eventually fled to London, then Charleston , where their twelfth child was baptised 16 March, 1688. !BIRTH Transactions of the Huguenot Society of South Caro , Transactions of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, V olume 1 Number 4, 1897, 11
