1). William Branford Shubrick was born 31 October, 1790 at th e residence of his father, Captain Thomas Shubrick of the C ontinental Army, on Bull s Island, South Carolina. He enter ed the Navy on 16 August, 1806, and was ordered to Norfol k to join the USS Chesapeake, which was deploying to the Me diterranean. Upon arrival in the Mediterranean, Shubrick wa s assigned to USS Wasp. In 1807, he was appointed Master o f Wasp under Campbell s Squadron.
