1). Alexander Bell Craig, the son of James Edward Craig 18461920 and Sarah Jane Hicklin Craig 1851 1936 was born i n Blackstock, SC on April 7, 1886. Alex was the seventh o f eleven children. He was educated in the Blackstock school s and Clemson College, where he was a member of the footbal l team. When a young boy, his first job was with Mr. John B ell in the Blackstock telephone office. He later went int o sales, working in the Marion. SC area for several years . He returned to Chester and was employed by Sims and Carte r and, later, by S.M. Jones and Co. On October 15,1919 Alex and Miss Mary Heath Brown were m arried. They became the parents of two children Morgan Jon es Craig 1920 1964 and Mary Brown Craig b.1925 . In 1925 Alex went into the lien business with Mr. Jones . Several years later, he went into the real estate busines s, which he maintained until his retirement. In 1946, he an d his son, Morgan. went into business together , Craig Broa dcasting Co. Their radio station, WGCD, went on the air i n 1947. For many years he enjoyed overseeing his farms. In the l ate 1950 s Craigbrow Farms became a housing development tha t is located off of Saluda Road, about four miles north o f Chester. Alex was a faithful member of Purity Presbyteri an Church, serving both the church and Sunday School in sev eral capacities. He was very civic minded, being a member o f the Chester Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce fo r a number of years. After several years of declining health, Alex Craig die d at his home on York Street in Chester on April 30, 1963 . He is buried in the Jones Craig plot at Evergreen Cemeter y.
