I have real g g and g g g grand parents at last 11 12 200, Diane Very likely the Abe Vosburgh mentioned in Carl Camer s, THE HUDSON, in the chapeter TIN HORN REBELLION. Columbia County officers soon enough found out all they needed to know about the calico Indiana. Disregarding upriver reports of officers diped in hot tar while the tin horns blew, Sheffiff Henry Miller and one deputy set out from Hudson a couple of weeks later to sell the farms of Steve Decker and Abe Vosburgh wgo had got behind in paying their annual tribute of chickens and wheat to the Van Rebsselaers. When they were riding through Ancram they heard horns blowing and a few moments later met a long column of calico warriors accompanied by more that a thousdand undeiguised spectaors. Hasteily the officers dismounted and ran into the back room of Swet s Tavern but the chiefs of the Indians followed them. Even with pistols and swords at their brests, sheriff and deputy refused to turn back. They brushed the weapons aside, returned to their horses, and rods to the first farm scheduled for sale the whole rout of calico Indians and their spectators streaming behind them. As they were beginning their auction some of the crownd saw a slight man in dress and mask push his way uo to a place beside the officers and there was a sudden cry of recognition Bing Thunder! Shall we take their papers and burn em? asked the sonorous voice of the speaker of the previous meeting. The left hands of the men in calico rose in a silient unanimous vote. Do the palefaces agree? called Big Thunder. Big Thunder was Dr. Smith Boughton In Families of S.E. Colombia County, this Abraham is referred to as Abraham of Ancram and his is the Abraham burried in the Ancram Cemetery whose stone was copied by June Strausser Vosburgh.
