1). Charles J. Ragatz Potosi Charles J. Ragatz, 79, of 145 East Street, Potosi, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in Dubuque, Iowa, after a long battle with heart disease and its complications. He was born April 22, 1919, in Potosi, the son of Charles and Lillian Schumacher Ragatz. Charles graduated from Potosi High School in 1935 and attended trade school in Los Angeles. He worked as a sheet metal journeyman before entering military service in 1942. He was a sergeant in the Army and served in the European Theatre of Operations until 1946. In 1947, Charles married Martha Reynolds at Potosi. He worked at the Potosi Brewing Company until purchasing its Dubuque distributorship in 1963. He owned and operated Dubuque Holiday Sales until he retired in 1983 because of ill health. He is survived by his wife, Martha of Potosi a daughter, Mary L. Ira Detra of Sun Prairie two sons, Ronald R. Christine Ragatz of Middleton and Gary L. Ida Ragatz of East Lansing, Mich. and six grandchildren. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were three brothers, Eugene, Richard and Edward Ragatz. The funeral service was held on Monday, March 22 at 11 A.M. at the Metcalfe Kuenster Page Funeral Home in Potosi with the Rev. Shirely Hickman officiating.
