NOTES
1). bobspu.ged First record in Ulster Co NY in the 1710 1711 West Camp Census. He was naturalized 8 9 Sep 1715 at Kingston, Ulster Co NY. Names next to his were Johann Georg Countryman and Johann Coenrad Countryman both his sons his son Andreas was also naturalized on the same date . In 1716 he and his wife Maria Barbara were at Heessberg. The fact that he had a child baptized in Niefern in 1708 suggests that he immigrated between 1708 and 1710, when he was found in NY records. Johann Friederich Countryman and family came via London in 1710 from the Palatinate to New York Harbor, and set up in West Camp Newton along the Hudson River. This family, along with others, were brought to America to manufacture tar from pine pitch for the British shipbuilding industry. That operation fell through, leaving the emmigrant Palatinates to fend for themselves. Many Palatinates and Dutch settles moved away from the lower Hudson River settlements, to Ulster County, where this Countryman went. Source
2). bobspu.ged Her last name comes from the book Countryman Family History by Ardell and Grace Countryman, 1986. Article F171 states New information gained from two letters written July 1982 to Grace Countryman Barth and translated by Ruth Countryman Mock, from a German geneologist, found in a registry book in Enzberg Germany church book had these entries Johann Hans Frederich Guntermann born about 1664 wife, Maria Barbara nee Simon, born about 1664 . . .
