2). mytree.FTW First mention of Eliza Jane Cate by name is 1850 census Appanoos e Co, Ia age 13 3 years later married in Appanoose Co, Iowa at age 16, Lorenzo D . Rose, 1 Sept 1853 in the home of William Cate. Book 1, pg 86. on 23 Feb 1857 Sold 80 acres ofland in Mercer Co,Mo to Elijah Ho lmes for $435.The relinguishing of her dower rights by Eliza Jane constit ues the last document during her lifetime that bears her name. an entry dated 25 Jul 1856 in Iowa census of 1856 finds the youn g couple living in Farmington Township of Van Buren C, Ia. Lorenzo been in state for 3 years and Eliza for 10 years an exaggeration . No children in home a s yet. On 6 May 1858 in county court of Appanoose County, Ia William Ca te was appointed administrator of the estate of Lorenzo D. Rose who die d intestate 14 April 1858. In his final report to the court in Feb 1877, William Cate state d said decedent died of smallpox in the year 1858 leaving two small chi ldren without home or parents, the mother having died a short time before.
