NOTES
1). mytree.FTW Elias Hicks, the son of John Hicks and Martha Smith, John was the son of Jacob Hicks , was born March 19, 1748, in the township of Hemprtead, Queens County, Long Island. He was the leader of one faction when there occurred a split in the Quaker church, and was well known as a preacher thru out the country. For full account of his life and work, see paper with....lMiss Alice Hicks. befound, mongt Elias Hicks was a man of force and character, and a natural orator of much power and influence. He attained very high rank as a preacher among Friends, and for many years was held in great esteem. But he seems to have hredually developed what may perhapsbe called the Rational side of Quakerism, and this development toward Rationalism in the Quaker fold brought him in conflict with the Orthodox Supernaturalism which had been, perhaps unconsciously, inherited from the Ancient Church.
