1). bobspu.ged Taken from Lake City Graphic newspaper Walter W. Spurgeon Walter W. Spurgeon was born of Eliza Jane Cox and John L. Spurgeon on May 29, 1887 in Glidden township, Carroll County, Iowa, and passed from this life at the home of his daughter on January 9, 1959. He was laid to rest in Cedar Cemetery, Sac County, Iowa, on January 12, 1959. He grew to manhood in Calhoun County where he spent all but the last ten years of his life. Twenty seven years were spent farming on the same farm northwest of Lake City, Iowa. On February 26, 1913, he was united in marriage with Nora Holm of Lake City, Iowa. To this union were born four children, Irene, Merle, Warren and George. He leave to mourn his passing his wife Nora, daughter, Mrs. Russell McClung of Lytton, Iowa and sons Merle of Austin, Minnesota Warred of Waterloo, Iowa and George where is with the United States Army and stationed at Schloss Germany. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as a great many other relatives and friends. Source Dorothy Dotty Cox June 2000
2). bobspu.ged  Taken from the Lake City Graphic, May 16, 1963 newspaper.Rites for Mrs. Nora Spurgeon at Sac City Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Spurgeon, 68, of Lytton, were held last Thursday afternoon at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with the Rev. Lenhard R. Middents, pastor of the Sac City Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in Cedar cemetery.  Mrs. Spurgeon, a former resident of the Lake City community, died at Loring Hospital in Sac City on Tuesday, May 7th.  Surviving are three sons and a daughter  Merle of Austin, Minnesota  Warren, Waterloo  George, United States Army and Ilene, Mrs. Russell McClung of Lytton  12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren  2 brothers  Gus Holm of Worthington, Minnesota, and Otto of Lake City  and five sisters  Mrs. Anna Smith of Brewster, Minnesota  Mrs. Ida Blair of Yetter  Mrs. Bertha Marlott and Mrs. Helen Swink, twins of Lytton  and Mrs. Olive Spurgeon, Waterloo.
