1). 1 NAME St. Aethelbert 1 1 UPDA 2 PLAC His feast day is 24th Feb. Ruler of all England south of the Humber, he married Bertha, daughter of the Frankish King Charibert, c.589. He became the first baptized Anglo Saxon king after receivine St. Augustine s mision from Rome in 597 which landed at Ebbsfleet, near Ramsgate. Hemade Canterbury the centre of Christianity in southern England and is buried there. He was succeeded by Edbald who temporarily renounced Christianity and married his stepmother.
