1). 1 UPDA 2 DATE 7 AUG 1618 2 PLAC Acceded 1st Earl of Devonshire Descendants Dukes of Devonshire Reportidly paid �10,000 for the privilege of being the Earl of Devonshire. In 1609 he helped pioneer English colonisation in Bermuda. One of the Bermuda islands was named after him.
