NOTES
1). Salians King Holy Roman Empire 1106 1125
2). 1 NAME Maud 1 UPDA 2 PLAC Queen of ENGLAND House of Anjou. Reigned 7 months, never crowned. Henry 1, made the Barons accept Matilda as his heir, to become Queen when he died following the death of Prince William in 1120. This did not happen as most of the Barons would not have Matilda as their Queen. They chose her cousin, Stephen 1135 1154 . Matilda tried to get the throne and civil war broke out between barons who supported Stephen and the barons who supported Matilda. She never got the throne and England suffered because of the war. Also the barons became more powerful and built their own castles without the King s permission. Declared heiress presumptive in 1126, disputed the throne with Stephen. She was possibly a twin with William Duke of Normandy . Had three sons, of whom the eldest later became King Henry II.
