1). from www.familytreemaker.com users r e a Judith M Rea GENE30001.html Age at death 68 yrs funeral home was Hempley Undertaking. He was awidower when he married Hilyer. Jay and his daughter, Ethel, moved to GA in 1902, when Ethel was 10years old. As far as his place of birth, I have been told Titusville, PAand Meadville, PA. In the 1870 Crawford Co. PA census he is listed as 11years old living in Rockdale Township. Bessie said that her father would not tell what the V stood for inhis name. Bessie said that there has been a James Courtney in everygeneration This Jay has a brother named James. He was a dairy andvegetable farmer. He went to GA when he was 43 years old. Jay lived inTitusville, PA, and started the first oil refinery there. Somehow theyare related to the Titus family there.

She was born almost blind,and later her eyes were burned then she was declared legally blind. Shewent to a blind school in GA. She worked in a dairy to help raise herchildren. She died 7 10 d before Bessie gave birth to Joe. Hilyer was working on a farm when she met Jay, who came to GA tovisit a friend of his, who had the farm that Hilyer was working on at thetime.
