1). !First found living with family in 1860, Santa Clara, aged 20, farm laborer. p. 503, dwelling 269, family 299 . Received MA degree from Pacific Methodist College in Santa Clara. Became first President of Methodist College, Corvallis, OR, in 1865. This later became Oregon State University. Resigned 4 May 1872, due to health requirements of wife, Sarah E.T. Reed, Book 1, Oregon State College, 1868 1938, Chapter 1, President Finley, Corvallis, OR Oregon State College, Orange & Black, 1938, p. 7 12...contains wedding picture of William and Sarah . William Asa Finley first appears on the Sonoma County, CA Great Register in 1879 as a minister, age 37, living in Santa Rosa. In 1888, he is listed as a clerical teacher, and is registered at least through 1894. In 1892, he is described as 5 8 . dark complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair. In the 1890 Business Directory of Sonoma County, he is listed as president of the Santa Rosa Ladies College. Found in Santa Rosa in census records of 1880 ed 124,sheet 43 , 1900 ed 174, sheet 14 and 1910 121 0157 0261 . Willie C., 18 year old dau ghter listed in 1900. In 1910, son, Ernest, age 39 is living in household along with Robert A. Latimer, 95 year old father in law. California Death Index file 18821 gives date of death as 19 June 1912, San Francisco, CA. !Record of birth found in original family papers of Ernest L. Finley, Santa Rosa, CA by Sherman Boivin in October 1992. Boivin had been asked by Evert Person, son in law of E.L. Finley to sort through family records to identify anything of historical interest. Boivin sent original record to me 20 October 1992. Brother, Newton Gleaves gives birth date as 16 September 1839 in Our Fore Fathers. Date of death found in Press Democrat s 1913 Directory of Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sonoma County, p. 69 incorrect !Suit was brought against bondsmen, Geo. Ulrich and W.A. Finley, for C.A. Perry, insurance man of Santa Rosa. Perry reportedly collected $616.76 which he failed to turn over Sonoma Searcher, SCGS, vol. 21, no. 3, March 1994, p. 32 from Sebastopol Times, 28 August 1895 .
2).  !Found in 1850, age 3, in home of parents, Robert A. and Malinda Latimer  in Horse head township, Johnson County, AR.  Older brother, James A, age 4  sister, Mary A., age 1.  Father, age 35, born in TN  mother Malinda, age 27, born in MO  p. 140 . Sarah wrote a series of articles on the early days at at Oregon State College  then Corvallis College , in the 1930s.  Included is the story of her meeting and marrying William  Oregon State Monthly, March, April, May June 1930 .  In the 1890 Business Directoryof Sonoma County  CA , she is listed as a ladies principal in the Santa Rosa Ladies College.  !California Death Index file  69050 gives death date as 14 November 1937.  1880 soundex, Sonoma County, CA shows Julia Cannon, age 13, born in CA, a foster daughter.
