General Notes for Child Col. Isham Randolph
There is a very big error in the Ancestral file because William Randolph, who was an uncle of President Thomas Jefferson, is listed as having two sets of parents.
This causes one set of his parents to be listed as having 20 children.
All of these family records, both of parents and of children, are likely to be wrong.
The correct parents are Col. Isham Randolph and Jane Rogers, and not Henry Randolph IV and Tabitha Poythress. I say this because Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to his uncle William Randolph saying in effect, "by the way, your sister died last year". This is the only time that Thomas Jefferson ever mentioned his mother, Jane Randolph, in any of his thousands of letters which he wrote. His uncle, William Randolph, born in Virginia, had moved to England, a reverse immigration.
Because of this error which affects so many children, all of these records are going to have to be redone.

The MacIans of Glencoe are descended from John, son of Ang us Og of Isla, who, according to the Seanachies, was a natu ral son. He was thus a half-brother of the "Good John" of I sla. He was known as Iain Fraoch and also as Iain Abrach. T he daughter of Dugall Mac Henry, chief man of Glencoe, wa s his mother. The special difficulties of the genealogy ari se from the fact that so many of the same name followed eac h other in the chieftainship, and that with nine or ten Joh n Abrachs and John Mac Iains and John Mac Iain Abrachs, i t is difficult to make distinctions.
