Second Car-Train Fatality HAMLET WOMAN DIES OF ACCIDENT INJURIES A Hamlet woman today became the second fatality in the car-train accident in LaPorte County which killed her son Saturday morning. Mrs. Robert Jensen, 34, died of injuries this morning in the E Street Division Memorial Hospital, LaPorte. Her son, Robert Keith Jensen, 12, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Jensen was the driver of the car which collided with a Norfolk and Western Railroad freight train at State Road 5 crossing five miles south of LaPorte. Four other children, Randy, 15, Theresa, 10, Desiree, 8, and Mark, 14, were injured in the crash. Randy, Teresa and Desiree are in critical condition at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, and Mark is in the E. Street Division Memorial Hospital, LaPorte. Robert Keith Jensen, was born May 12, 1957 in Knox to Robert and LaVonne Stichler Jensen. He was a seventh grade student at Oregon-Davis Junior High School, Hamlet, and was a member of the Hamlet United Methodist Church, the MYF there, and the LaPorte YMCA. Surviving besides his father, two sisters and two brothers, are his paternal grandfather, Carl Jensen, Sr., Okechobee, Fla., and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stichler of Gas City. ........(Article margin torn off---can not be completed)

Milton Beeman, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet, until 11 a.m., Wednesday. when the bodies will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Burial will be at Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. The mother and son died of injuries suffered in a car-train accident, Saturday, in LaPorte County. Mrs. Jensen was the driver of the car. Four other Jensen children were injured in the accident. Mrs. Jensen was born Oct. 6, 1935 at Argos and went to the Hamlet area 16 years ago. She was married July 5, 1953 to Robert C. BIO: "Randy" JENSEN's was another tragic accident in the immediate family of Robert Carl JENSEN, Jr. Randy's mother and younger brother died from injuries sustained in a car-train accident in Dec., 1969. Per Wilma FOLTZ, his younger sister, who was critically injured in the same accident, was left physically handicapped from those injuries. Randy's obituary is transcribed below.
******************** KNOX MAN, 25, VICTIM OF DROWNING The body of Randall Lee JENSEN, 25, Rt.1, Knox, who drowned at 2 p.m. Saturday in a canoe accident, has been recovered in the Yellow River near the Marshall-Starke County line. Authorities said that Mr. Jensen was canoeing with a friend Saturday, when the craft hit a tree in the river and capsized. Jensen's companion, Thomas King,, 24, Rt.1, Knox, was able to swim to shore, it was noted by authorities. Mr. Jensen, formerly of Hamlet, was born Sept. 1, 1954 at Knox and had lived in Starke County most of his life. A 1972 graduate of Oregon-Davis High School, he was a member of the Hamlet United Methodist Church and an employee of Young Door Co. of Plymouth. Surviving with his father, Robert Jensen, of Hamlet are two sisters, Desiree Jensen also of Hamlet, and Teresa Jensen of Plymouth; one brother Mark Jensen of Hamlet. His maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stichler of Gas City, his paternal grandfather, Carl Jensen of Hamlet, and several aunts and uncles. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. (CST) Tuesday at Rannells Funeral Home Hamlet Chapel with Revs. Phil and Tompsie Duecker, pastors of Hamlet United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. Friends may call anytime at the funeral home.
