Served in S. C. Militia as follows: for two months from April 1781,under Capta in Parrott and Colonel Bratton for four months,from June1781, under Captain He nry Hale and Colonel David Hopkins. Pensionissued June 6, 1836. Sometime betw een 1790 and 1800 Issac and family moved to RutherfordCounty, North Carolina. Due primary to opposition to slavery Issac andhis family decided to move to Il linois their was twenty-one in allwith his married children and their children . they left November 22,1827. On March 1828 they reach what was latter to becom e Section 7,Township 12, Range 6, of what is now whitley Township, Moultrie County, Illinois.

John Malcolm Johnstone enlisted in the Confederate army i n 1864 at the age of 16 and served in Company H, 4th Regime nt, S.C. Reserves as a Second Lieutenant. In 1884 he was el ected Mayor of Newberry, South Carolina, and served for tw o terms in the S.C. House of Representatives. In 1894, he w as appointed U.S. Consul in Pernambuco, Brazil by Presiden t Cleveland.

General Notes (Husband)

Charles H. Tompkins Jr., 48, builder, farmer, huntsma n, died yesterday at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton. He ha d suffered a heart attack Saturday at his home, Spring Hil l Farm, in Casanova, Va.
Mr. Tompkins had been associated for many years with t he Charles H. Tompkins Co., founded by his late father an d sold by the family in 1961 to the J.A. Jones Constructio n Co., Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., which operates it as a bran ch office.
During those years, the local company built many of th e city's landmarks, including the White House executive off ices, District Court, The National Guard Armory, the Towe r and Wyatt buildings and many others. The firm also ha d a part in building the Central Intelligence Agency headqu arters at Langley, Va.
After the sale of the firm, Mr. Tompkins became vice p resident and treasurer of the H Street Building Corp., a po sition he held at the time of his death. Mr. Tompkins was b orn in Washington and attended St. Albans School and the Un iversity of the South at Sewanee, Tenn. After completing hi s schooling, he joined his father's firm, leaving it only d uring World War II to work with the Stone & Webster Constru ction Co.
He was a founder and chairman of the board of the Fauq uier Savings and Loan Association in Warrenton. He was on t he advisory board of Riggs National Bank, served on the Fed eral City Council, and was a member of the Metropolitan Was hington Board of Trade and the Washington Building Congress.
He also belonged to the Metropolitan, Chevy Chase, Uni versity and Capitol Hill clubs here and the Fauquier Club o f Warrenton and the Commonwealth Club of Richmond. He wa s a senior warden for many years of Grace Episcopal Churc h in Casanova.
Mr. Tompkins rode with many of the Virginia Hunts an d served for many years as the master of the Casanova Hunt . He started the Casanova Hunt Point to Point, held every F ebruary at Spring Hill Farm, where the Casanova Horse Sho w also was held every spring. He was a member of the Master s of Fox Hounds association.
Surviving are his wife, Lalla Rook, of the home; a son , Charles H. III of Arlington; a daughter, Lalla Rook Shemw ell of Gainesville, Fl.; two sisters, Mrs. Malcolm Matheso n Jr. of ferry Point, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Tompkins Parker of W ashington, and a granddaughter.
He graduated in Sewanee, Tennessee. Institution : University of the South. At 23 years of age Dod became t he father of Charles Hook Tompkins III Chicago, Illinois, D ecember 20, 1942. At 24 years of age Dod became the fathe r of Lalla Rook Tompkins in Knoxville, Tennessee, June 2 19 44.
