A few things about Paddy

Patrick Western - Paddy to us, was a "character" the like of such is rare. He led a very full life, had done just about everything there was to do - he had hard times & good times. Hard times fighting for his Country - Good times having Sheila his wonderful wife & six lovely children.

Paddy had such a brilliant sense of humor - times with him were such great fun - yet he had a more serious side, interest in what was happening in the World, the state of the country also he had great concern for Humanity & Animals.

We will miss you Paddy, life will never be quite the same again without you.

We would like to thank God for your life with us.

Most of what I have to say applies equally to Mum & Dad. Time and again, for over 40 years, they both put our needs before their own.

Being the eldest of 6 children I feel I should try to say something at this time, and as DAD would have said "Unaccustomed as I am to Public Speaking" I hope to be able to get through this.

Due to the passage of time it is difficult to put into words, specific things or events, as they become a blur in the mind.

However, I know how much both Mum & Dad struggled to bring up all of us, with Love, little money and hard work.

Despite this Dad was always able to "Crack a Joke" or make you feel better if you had a problem.

In trying to remember things, I have tried to select memories that we would all have, but as they are to numerous to recall, and each of us will have there own special memories, I have tried to remember events that would strike a "Chord" with most of us.

As I said at the start, and assuming I have been able to get this far, there are 3 things that stick in my mind and I believe all of you will recognize and understand what I am saying.

One of my most vivid recollections are "Camping Holidays"----when we would all go off to Devon on a "Shoestring". One year we either got lost or the car broke down (I don't remember which) We spent the night in a concrete out-house of some sort in the middle of nowhere and had "Soup" with Spiders! I have hated spiders ever since...

Dad was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about everything. I know this by his expertise in completing The Telegraph Crossword, a task that on occasion I had great pleasure in assisting him to complete, but something I could never complete on my own, even to this day.

The 3rd thing, and by no means the least, is that even when in obvious pain, he could still make a joke or offer good advice.

I think these 3 memories give everybody an indication of who and the kind of caring person Dad was.

We will miss you but never forget you.
