Leonard was first married to Annie Martha Wightman on 26 th of November 1888 at St Annes church in the parish of Islington Middlesex. The residence of both is stated as Palmerston Rd. Her father,s name is Thomas Wightman We do not know the reason why he left Annie .I have been told that a son was born to her and I believe he was named Charles John .Iwas told that he was the Medical Officer for Devon . My grandad was a butcher and he had a shop in Peckham .He had moved there with Rose Jones My Mother,her sister Ivy and her brother Harry were born in Peckham. His shop was called JAMES LAIDMAN even though his name was Leonard.! .From there they moved to Clapham to another Butchers shop and the street was called the "Pavement" From there finally to the butchers shop in Galesbury Rd.Wandsworth where Peggy and Charles John [Wag] were born. The billheads read JAMES LAIDMAN BUTCHER .PURVEYOR TO HM.PRISONS ESTABLISHED 1888. On our Mothers wedding certificate he is noted as a Master Butcher . Grandad Laidman was buried at Magdalen Road Cemetery.(LONDON?)

When Rose Jones was a young girl living in Bermondsey she worked at the Pearce Duffs Custard factory in Bermondsey.The birth certificate states the address for residence as 10,Alexis Street,Bermondsey.After her husband died in St.James hospital London in 1939 Rose (my grandmother)was alone .During the early part of World war 2 her daughter Peggy with her young children were evacuated to Dorset so Nan went with them.While Nan was bathing the children,young Patsy stepped on an upturned tin lid and Nan suffered a fatal heart attack with the shock!

The addresses on the marriage certificate for both Annie and Leonard was given as Palmerston road Islington.Middlesex. At the time of the marriage his father Charles was deceased. The witnesses were David Edward Hewitt,and Edith Harriet Hewitt !We do not know the circumstances of how and why the marriage did not last but we do know that Leonard and my Grandmother Rose Louise Jones had their first child ,my Mother Doris Louisa 15th August 1902.Obviously they could not be married before 1921 presumably because of his first wife.

Doris Louisa Laidman lived at 6,Galesbury Rd. where her parents had a butchers shop. The shop was in the name of James Laidman although her fathers name was Leonard.The name James also appears on her marriage certificate.She married Ernest from this address and had her family of five children there.We moved to Netley Gdns.Morden Surrey and then to Lewes in Sussex after we were bombed out during an air raid in 1940. Mum was buried with our Dad on the 15th of October 1997.The service was held at St.Michaels Church by the Reverend Hinckley.Three hymns were sung the first was The Lord is my Shepherd ,then All things Bright and Beautiful,and last How Great Thou Art.
