Julian was employeed as a bookkeeper and worked for companies in Wyoming (ehere Mary Louise was born) and Kansas City. He then brought his family back to his Mother's farm north of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was rather well known for his hobby of collecting Native American relics of which he had thousands. He catalogued each and every one. The collection, after his death and after the theft of some pieces was given to the Dubuque County Museum. He was also interested in writing, but alas, none of his stories were published. He became a loner and a bit eccentric in his later years but could still play a mean game of checkers.
