He m. 1598 (Ph. Warzv., iii, 92) at Charlecote, co. W a r w . , Joyce, dau. of Sir Edward Aston of Tixhall, co. S ta ff o r d by a Lucy of Charlcote; and by her had Martin , wh o w a s bu r. in Feckenham, September 8, 1605, as 'Mar ten t he s on ne o f Sir Marten Culpep'; and three daughter s, tw o of w ho m surv ived him, He was knighted by Jame s I at Wh itehall , M ay 14 , 1604 (Nichols, Progresses o f of Jame s I, i, 43 8) , and di ed a month later, aet.25 , leavin g a nuncupativ e wi ll, decla red June 1, 1604, wh ich was p roved October 8 , 160 5, as P.C. C. Hayes, 66.
His widow, who survived him and was buried in Fecken h a m , J anuary 3, 1618/19 ('The Ladye Joyce Culpep') lea v i n g a will , P.C.C. Parker, 95, erected to him, in Feck en h a m church, a n elaborate altar tomb with recumbent fi gur e s , which were e ngraved for Nash (Worcestershire, i , 15 6 , 44 3), who gives t he MI. as follows:
Under this monument lieth the body of Sir Martin Culp e p e r , of Deane, in the county of Oxford, Knight, son a n d he i r o f Martin Culpeper of Astwood, esq., and Letti c e the d au ghte r of Henry Clearck of Westhawke by Ashefo r d in th e cou nty o f Kent, esquire. He married Joyce, t h e eldest d aughte r of S ir Edward Aston of Tix-hall in t h e county o f Staffor d, Knig ht, and of Ann the only daug ht er of Sir T homas Lucy , of Cha rlcote, co.
