!The following is a summary: Israel was raised by his s t e p mother, Elizabeth Stoughton Knight, in Lincoln, Engla n d . I srael and his wife, Elizabeth Knight, the eldest d au gh ter o f his father-in-law, came to America in 1632 . Lik e h is bro ther, Thomas, he became one of the firs t settler s o f Dorche ster, Massachusetts. He had large r eal estat e hol dings i n Dorchester and served in public o ffice. H e had t he titl e of Captain, and was an aide t o John Mason . In hi s father- in-law, William Knight's wil l, dated 21 M ar 1629/ 30, Israe l was appointed executor o f his estate . Willia m mentione d his widow, Margaret Kni ght, and fou r children , William, J ohn, Mary, and Ursula . After Willia m Knight' s death, thes e members of the fam ily of Elizabet h Knight , wife of Israel , also came to Ne w England, inclu ding he r mother, the wido w Elizabeth Kni ght, her brother , Rev. Wi lliam Knight, and t wo other sis ters, Mary, wif e of Thoma s Clark and Ursula, wi fe of Dav id Yale, account ing for al l of the children mentio ned i n the will excep t John. Israe l "espoused the Crom well cause ," returned again to E nglan d and was given a com missio n in the Calvary. He quick l y rose through the rank s bei ng appointed Lt. Col. under " R ainsboro" until his dea t h in Lincoln, England in 1645. H i s will was dated 17 J u l 1644 in London, England.

Elizab et h Kni ght 's birth was estimated to be abt 1611 since Wi lli am Kni gh t married her mother, Elizabeth, abt 1610. Sh e wa s proba bl y born in Lincoln, England, and married Isr ael S toughto n i n Rotherhite, Surrey, England. (See TAG 3 3:108- 112; "Th e Gr eat Migration Begins," Vol. III, pp. 1 775-177 6.) It se ems u nusual for these two, who had live d togethe r in the s ame fa mily, presumably in Lincoln, En gland, t o get marrie d in Sur rey, England. Possibly ther e was clos e relative th ere or po ssibly the family move d there tempo rarily.
