Abram Van Wye, my old respected uncle, was the most perfect and upright man tha I ever knew, a man that tried to live a perfectlife in the sight of his God and in the sight of man, a man of strong passions which he learned to subdue and control. A man os strong mental faculties, a man well informed, away above the average for his day, not an enthusiast but prudent and conservative in all his affairs, charitable toward all, not bigoted in the least, but he was industrious, temperate, sober, prudent, and kind to all, a pattern for his fellow men if they would but follow in his foot steps. His influence was great and always for the good. In religion and education he was always in front taking an active part and his influence is still going on and will continue until the end of time. ...
--- In the spring of 1834 he emigrated to Ohio and settled in Weathersfield Township, Trumbull Co., OH. His original purchase comprised 150 acres of land, but at the time of his death he owned four hundred acres. Source: Lineage of Frederick J Van Wye

Names children Charles and John, sons in law Hiram Dunlap and John A Hunter (Lydia Dunlap and Mary Hunter), Nancy, Amanda, William, Joseph W, Darthula W, Almira, and Sabina. The book History of Northeast Ohio says that he came to Trumbull Co in 1806. He and his father Arthur Van Wye lived in Howland Twp, Charles on Lot 38 in 1824, and between 1825 and 1826, he moved to 100 acres on Lot 16 of Weathersfield Twp. His sister married Joseph Earl in 1823, and Joseph lived in Weathersfield in 1830, and had land near Charles in the 1840 and 1850 land maps.

My father, James and Jan Laird Van Wye moved to Indiana in 1841, where my mother died in 1844. I was fourteen years old at that time. I was sent back to Ohio in the fall of 1845 to my Uncle Abram Van Wye, with whom I made my home until the fall of the year 1852, when I again went back to Indiana and made my home with uncle and aunt Jesse and Catherine Hunter until Lucy and I were married in September 1, 1853.
We then moved to Jennings o., Ind., where we lived until the spring of 1856 when we moved to Missouri and I entered 120 acres of land that fall, which we moved into in the fall of 1857. I still own and reside on the said land today. ...
He moved to Trumbull Co., Ohio from Washington Co., Pennsylvania in 1832; his brother Abram moved there in 1833. James then moved to Indiana in 1841.
