Sarah Ann Lark Lived in Virginia near the Clinch Mountains.  Her father owned a large plantation and had slaves.  She was an only child.  She and Samuel Spurgeon ran away and were married by a captain on a flat boat. Her parents opposed the marriage because of the difference in the families financially.  His family were in modest means, while hers were considered wealthy.
