General Notes (Husband)
Not much is known about Jean Laurent (1643-1681) and his w ife, Elizabeth Manigault (1647-1700) except that they wer e from France. Only one son is known, and his name was Andr e. Andre Laurent (1667-1715), son of Jean and Elizabeth Lau rent, married Maria Lucas (1669-1716). Andre was born in L a Rochelle, France, and was the first of the name to come t o America. He and his wife, Maria, with their five childre n migrated to South Carolina in 1716. The family landed a t Charleston with other Huguenots. The name changed with th is generation to Laurens. Jean/John Samuel Laurens was on e of their five children and was also born in La Rochelle , France.

Jean/John Samuel Laurens (1696-1747), son of Andre and Mar ia Laurent, married Ester/Hester Grasset (1700-1742). Este r was the daughter of Samuel and Marthe (Poupin) Grasset, a lso of France but who had immigrated to New York and live d in Staten Island where Ester was born. One of the childre n of Jean and Ester Laurens was Henry.
