General Notes (Husband)
Civil War veteran enlisted in 1862, at South Bend 21st Indiana Battery
[bobspu.ged]
Individual note: 1. Wilma (MOW) FOLTZ, 1049 E-450N, Rochester, IN 46975 2. Obituary: Anna Lawson, 1928 via Wilma MOW FOLTZ 3. Rosemary WILLIAMS, P.O.Box 65, Fulton, IN
BIO: Charles Lawson was the second husband of Anna Eliza MOW DAGGETT. The marriage took place a year after Robert Daggett died. In the obit., it states that she married Charles when 20 years old and that Charles preceded her in death, "two years ago". Actually, per Mrs. FOLTZ and Ms. WILLIAMS, Anna preceded Charles in death by two years.
July, 1996: Wilma FOLTZ sent photocopies of two articles concerning Chales LAWSON.
*********************************** CHARLES A. LAWSON Charles Alton Lawson, 89, former resident of Richland Township, Fulton county, died Sunday morning at his home in South Bend. Death was due to complications of diseases incident to advanced years. Charles Alton, son of Noah Sandefer and Nancy Thompson Lawson, was born on Feb. 8, 1841, near Rochester. He was united in marriage to Lavina O'Blenis on Sept. 26, 1860 and to this union were born nine children, six sons and three daughters; his wife and five children preceding him in death many years ago. In 1882, he was married to Eliza DAGGETT and they were the parents of four children, one daughter and three sons. In 1884 he and his family moved to the west where they lived for about 40 years. In the fall of 1925 they returned to Fulton county where they resided until the death of Mrs. Lawson in 1928. Since that time he had made his home with his children. The deceased was a Civil War veteran having enlisted in 1862, at South Bend in the 21st Indiana Battery serving until June 20, 1865, at which time he received his honorable discharge. Surviving are nine children, 2 grandchildren, 17 great grand- children; one sister, Mrs. Jennie McDonald, of South Bend. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Richland Center church. Rev. Philip Beehler will officiate and burial will be in the IOOF cemetery at Richland Center.
************************ CHAS. LAWSON WAS THE LAST MEMBER OF BATTERY
The funeral services which were held this afternoon for Charles Alton Lawson, aged 89, at the Richland Ceneter Church were largely attended. Rev. Beehler was in charge. Burial was made in the Richland Center cemetery. Mr. Lawson who was the last surviving Civil War veteran of the 21st Indiana Battery which was recruited in South Bend died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Rough, 509 North Hill Street, South Bend Sunday morning. Death was caused by infirmities of old age. Mr. Lawson was sworn into service at South Bend on August 15, 1862. His battery went through the heaviest fighting in the war including the battles of Chattanooga, Chickamauga, Lewisville and Nashcille. A monument is erected at Chickamauga commemorating the services of the 21st which repulsed repeated assaults of the Confederates on September 20, 1863. Mr. Lawson was honored with the banner of his battery by his Captain A. ?__? Andrew III of LaPorte. Mr. Lawson was the father of 13 children.

BIO: MRS. ANNA LAWSON DIES AT HOME NORTH OF CITY Aged lady--Victim of Heart Trouble Leaves many survivors--Funeral Plans Mrs. Anna Eliza Daggett Lawson, aged 75, died at her home five and a half miles north of this city on the Michigan Road in Richland Township Wednesday evening at 11:30 o'clock after two months illness caused by heart failure. Every aid known to medical science was used to combat the disease but because of the victim's age all efforts proved to no avail. The deceased was born in Richland Township on September 4, 1852 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Mowe. She attended Whippoorwill school. When she was 20 years of age, she married Charles Allan Lawson, who preceded her in death two years ago. Her entire married life, Mrs. Lawson spent in Springfield, Ill., moving to this county after her husband's death. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Rough of South Bend, and Mrs. Nellie Julian of Arlington, Kansas, three sons, Fred Lawson and Harry Lawson of Springfield, Ill., and Eddie Lawson of Meridan, Miss., three brothers, Samuel Mowe, Cornelius, Oregon, Marion and Dave of this city and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Weir of Rochester and several grandchildren. Pending word from relatives who live at distant points no funeral arrangements have been made. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Richland Cemetery. Thurs. May 31, 1928
This obituary makes no mention of Anna Eliza's first marriage. Per Mrs. FOLTZ, she first married Robert Daggett in Sept. of 1871. This would have been when Anna was about 20 years old as mentioned in the obit. Robert died in 1881 and Anna married again to Charles Lawson in March 1882. Lawson is not mentioned in the above obituary other than he died about two years earlier. In data supplied by Mrs. FOLTZ and Ms. WILLIAMS, Charles Lawson died in South Bend two years after Anna. It would appear that they were not living together at the time of her death. Charles is also buried at Richland Center.

[bobspu.ged]
Individual note: 1. Wilma (MOW) FOLTZ, 1049 E-450N, Rochester, IN 46975 2. Obit: Mrs. Anna Lawson, 1928 (mother)
BIO: Mrs. FOLTZ gives birth and death dates for the children of Anna and Charles Lawson but no places. Since Anna's obituary states that she spent her entire married life in Springfield, Ill., it would appear that the children were born there. Since most marriages occur in the home county of the bride, compiler has guessed that Nellie's marriage took place in or near Springfield, also. Anna's obituary gives Nellie's surname as "Julian" and her place of residence as "Arlington, Kansas".

Individual note: 1. Wilma (MOW) FOLTZ, 1049 E-450N, Rochester, IN 46975 2. Obit: Mrs. Anna Lawson, 1928 (mother) BIO: His mother's obituary states that he was living in Springfield, IL at the time of her death, 1928. It also states that his mother had lived her entire married life in Springfield, so compiler has guessed that Fred and siblings were born there. Birth and death dates via Wilma MOW FOLTZ.
