--Born August 27, 1800, at Robertville, the son of Willi am Henry Lawton and Catherine Maner, sister of John Seth Ma ner. Planter, of "Cypress Vale" plantation, near what is n ow Scotia, Hampton County. Married, first, Mary Anna King o f Effingham County, Ga.; second, Elizabeth Allen Thomson, d aughter of Benjamin Thomson, after 1830. S. C. House of Rep resentatives, St. Peter's, 1824-28, 1832-34. S. C. Senate , St. Peter's, 1850-52, 1855-56. Commissioner of roads . Justice of peace. Commissioner to approve securities. Sol diers' Board of Relief, 1861. Member of Methodist Episcopal Church for 39 y ears. Died December 5, 1862, at his Home, "Cypress Vale"; b uried at Black Swamp Methodist Churchyard, near what is no w Garnett.
