BIO: According to the family biographical information provided by Eva McCARTY, William was born while his father was working for his brother in INDIANA. Shortly after his birth, William's mother was diagnosed with T.B.; she died soon after Elisha moved her back to TN. Elisha then married Martha WILLIAMSON, who William and his sister, Lavisa, accepted as their mother. Per Mrs. McCARTY, William's and Sally's fourteen children were:

Oscar M. (s.o. William 1876) Lay, probably not in GEDCOM Terley Lay, Curtis Lay, Fred Lay, Dennis Lay, Milas Lay, Taylor Lay, Jesse Lay, Wanda Lay, Lou Lay, Harriett Lay, Lola Lay, Gertrude Lay, and Mable Lay.

 No other data was given. William and Sally stayed in Tennessee and had fourteen children. When they had their first child, a midwife and a doctor were with Sally. Apparently William watched the proceedings, as he was the one who delivered all the rest of their children.  There was never a doctor or a midwife for the last thirteen.
